Floods in the Esk Valley

The Esk River is prone to high flows and flooding. In April 1938 torrential rain over two and a half days wrecked havoc in the valley as seen in the images below. In March 2018, really high rain fall in the upper catchment had a devastating effect down stream. Planting flood-tolerate species on the river banks and larger tree species further back can help moderate river flows.
